DJI has unveiled the Osmo Pocket 4, the fourth generation of its pocket-sized gimbal camera. Building on the popular Osmo Pocket 3, the new model retains the 1-inch CMOS sensor and 20mm f/2.0 lens but doubles the slow-motion frame rate to 4K/240fps, adds 14 stops of dynamic range with 10-bit D-Log, and packs 107GB of internal storage with USB 3.1 transfer speeds of up to 800MB/s.
The Osmo Pocket 4 keeps the 1-inch CMOS sensor and f/2.0 aperture with a 20mm equivalent field of view, maintaining a minimum focus distance of 0.2m. The headline imaging improvement is the jump to 4K/240fps slow motion, up from 4K/120fps on the Pocket 3. That doubles the temporal resolution for slow-motion work, bringing a capability typically reserved for dedicated cinema cameras down to a 190.5g pocket device. Standard 4K recording remains available at 24, 25, 30, 48, 50, and 60fps, along with 1080p at the same frame rates and vertical 9:16 modes at 3K and 1080p.
DJI now claims 14 stops of dynamic range in its D-Log color profile, which captures 10-bit color at up to 4K/60fps. For context, the Pocket 3 offered D-Log M with 10-bit recording, but DJI did not publish a dynamic range figure for that model. (And before some of you ask for a CineD Lab Test to verify that claim: The fixed wide focal length makes it hard for us to test dynamic range on this device using the IMATEST step chart.)
